About our Faith Community

Christ the King Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – Southeastern Iowa Synod, with a baptized membership of approximately 900 souls, living throughout Iowa City, Coralville, and the surrounding area.

We confess:

  • The Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
  • Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe;
  • The canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the authoritative source and norm of its proclamation, faith, and life;
  • The Apostle's, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds as true declarations of faith;
  • The Unadultered Augsburg Confession as a true witness to the gospel;
  • The Gospel, recorded in Holy Scripture and confessed in the ecumenical creeds and Lutheran confessional writings, as the power of God to create and sustain the Church for God's mission in the world.

Our vision statement reads as follows:

God is calling Christ the King Lutheran Church to be servants of Christ. As servants of Christ, our character is to be: loving, faithful, thankful, joyful, and generous. And, as such, we are to worship the Lord in holy splendor, teach them to obey everthing that (Jesus has) commanded (us), proclaim Christ crucified, serve the Lord, and love in truth and action.

Wth our offerings of prayer, money, time, and ability, we support the following:

  • The mission and ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America throughout the world;
  • Christ the King Preschool, Johanna Fiedrowicz – Registrar, 351-1020
  • Lutheran Services in Iowa – www.lsiowa.org, 515-277-4476;
  • Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University of Iowa, 109 E. Market St., Iowa City, 338-7868;
  • Other local initiatives which provide food, clothing, housing, comfort, and encouragement to the poor, hungry, homeless, or the sick in our midst.

The pervading spirit of Christ the King is to continually look forward to that day when Christ shall be all in all. This spirit is captured in the words of a hymn:

Here in this place the new light is streaming, now is the darkness vanished away;
See in this space our fears and our dreamings brought here to you in the light of this day.
Gather us in and hold us forever, gather us in and make us your own;
Gather us in, all peoples together, fire of love in our flesh and our bone.

We welcome you to Christ the King and to all that we have in Him here!
