Educational Programs

Sunday School

Our weekly Sunday school classes are open to three-year-olds through high-school-age youth.

Adult Forum

The Adult Forum meets every Sunday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 in the nave. The forum is open to all adults above high school age. Some of the topics for 2002-2003 are:

  • "Servants of Christ," a study of the congregation's new vision statement. This Bible and word study will help us unfold the statement for our congregation and for our individual lives.
  • "In the Presence of God: A Study of Worship," a wide-ranging study of worship in the context of both a biblical and a confessional background.

Confirmation

Our 7th through 9th grade youth participate in a weekly study of the Christian faith from a Lutheran perspective.

Christ the King Christian Preschool

A Christian education is available in our facility for preschoolers beginning at age three. More information

Pastor's Bible Class

The Pastor's Bible Class meets on Wednesdays in two sessions, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. The class will meet approximately 20 times between September and May. (A schedule is available from the church office.) The title of this year's study is "Go and Make Disciples: A Study of the Books of the Acts of the Apostles." This book is more than a travelogue of Paul's missionary journey and a history of the disputes in the early church. It is, above all else, a theological book that has much to say to the church today.

Advent and Lenten Bible Study

The topic for the Advent Bible Study is "Key Words of the Bible." Each study is self-contained and not built on the previous week's study. The study will meet Wednesdays from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. during the season of Advent (December 4, 11, and 18). The topic for the Lenten study is "Disciplined Christian Living." The study will meet March 12 and 26 and April 2, 9, and 16.

Small Groups

Small groups are at the center of adult Christian education at Christ the King Lutheran Church. All adults are strongly encouraged to belong to one of these study groups and also to consider taking on a leadership role. New small groups of four to twelve people form each September and continue through May. Groups meet at times convenient for their members. The groups focus on Bible study, fellowship, and prayer. If you are interested in joining a small group, contact the church office at 338-5236.

Pastor's Class: The Christian Faith from the Lutheran Perspective

This class meets twice each year. It is especially for those who are coming to Christ the King Lutheran Church from another perspective of the Christian faith. Each series is four weeks in length and meets from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the church. Anyone is welcome to attend. The class serves as the adult confirmation class for those interested in joining Christ the King Lutheran Church. Topics covered include:
  • what Lutherans believe
  • how Lutherans worship
  • Lutherans in mission around the world
  • everything you want to know about Christ the King Lutheran Church
The fall class meets September 22 and 29 and October 6, 13, and 20. The spring class meets March 16, 23, and 30 and April 6 and 13.

WELCA Bible Study

The Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America at Christ the King Lutheran Church meet monthly for Bible study, fellowship, and many other activities. The Hannah Circle meets on the first Thursday of the month at 9:00 a.m. at the church building. Child care is provided. The Magdalene Circle meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the church building. The Ruth Circle meets on the third Wednesday for lunch at noon at the homes of members. The Bible studies for this year are "Grace upon Grace: A Study of the Gospel of John" and, in the summer, "Leading Ladies of the Bible."

Caring Skills for Christian Families

It has always been difficult to be a parent—but, perhaps, especially so today. Caring Skills for Christian Families gives parents biblically based skills and principles that enable them to be more effective parents. This class uses the Ten Commandments and Scripture as its guide to help families formulate social skills. Parenting skills that are taught include:
  • effective praise
  • preventive teaching
  • corrective teaching
  • teaching self-control
This five-session class is offered October 27, November 3, 10, 17, 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the church building. The class is limited to 12 participants. Cost is $12.00. Pre-registration is required through the church office. Both parents are strongly encouraged to attend.
