Christ the King Christian Preschool – Testimonials

Dear Parent,

Our son goes to Christ the King Preschool. In the year since he has started, we have seen tremendous growth in him. He loves to learn and this love is fostered by the many activities that he does at school. Each day contains art and science. Learning is made enjoyable, almost to the point where he does not realize that he is learning. In addition, the preschool offers a place where all children are accepted, regardless of race or socio-economic status. Each child is loved unconditionally, which in turn teaches the children to love others.

The day we went to visit the preschool, before we enrolled our son, our son was ill. He hadn't told us that anything was wrong. While he was painting (at the easel that is always set up for painting), he threw up. I ran into the bathroom with him. In the mean time, all of the teachers jumped into action. They each know what needed to be done. They were so swift in their action, that none of the other children even knew what had happened. By the time that my son and I were finished in the bathroom (which included a change of clothes given to us by the teachers), everything was cleaned up. We even got a call that afternoon and the next day to see how he was feeling. Such an out pouring of loving concern from people who had only known us for half an hour was overwhelming. We knew this preschool would definitely be the best place for our son ... and it has been.

We whole heartedly recommend enrollment at Christ the King. We have never regretted the decision. Actually, each day our sone comes home from school, we are happier with the choice. We know that you will be also.

To whom it may concern,

Please take a few minutes to read this so I can share with you my experience with Christ the King Christian Preschool.

In February I had a little girl 2 1/2 months premature, all the physicians at that time said she'd be a little slower then kids her age. I remember thinking, not if I can help it! I decided that I'd give her every opportunity available - so I did a lot of research on preschools in the Iowa City area and one name kept coming up Christ the King Christian Preschool.

I took my oldest grand-daughter there and guess who the Director-Head teacher was, Mary Ann. I felt so lucky and blessed. My little one loved all the teachers. I feel these 3 teachers were sent to us not only to teach our children but to start them on the right path for life and to love them. Angels, all three.

The, teachers not only prepare them for the basics, but spiritually. Also, to care for others. Mary Ann Asklelson and the other 2 teachers have tremendous character, personal integrity, and a great deal of love for all the children.

The teachers are not only well qualified but also extremely nurturing. They take time to get to know each child so well that they are able to tailor their interaction with each child to the child's needs and personality.

The activities are well planned and the at projects are very creative. The children have every opportunity to interact with one another. Developing positive social skills is a primary goal. Every day is a different, busy experience!

From the first day of preschool, I never worried about her safety while she was at preschool. I knew that the teachers would take great care of her, and the facilities are set up for a very safe entrance and dismissal from school.

Since English is our second language, we were a little nervous about putting our son in a native preschool. I still remember our school tour day which consequently washed off our anxiety. Thanks for his great friends and amazing teachers with great patience, he was always happy there and learned a lot, day by day.

He learned tons of things from school, letters, numbers, songs, reading and more. They have calendar time, music and story time, craft time every school day, sometimes they even have a science project. Even his sister, 4th grader, was looking forward to find in his school bag if he had brought a sheet of science project. Making butter, soda rocket, dissolving egg shell... They enjoy acting out the story of "the mitten" in winter. They have visiting fire engine day. They have class parties on seasonally occasions. Every project and happenings are connected to the practical life and interest, which I think helps kids to have motivation to learn things and care. They are truly enjoying learning there.

Baby Bear, a class stuffed bear, was another kids' special favorite. Kids take turns to bring the bear with teacher's selected books to their home to stay with and take care of the bear. I think it also is a good opportunity to learn responsibility by loving and caring for BB. Kids plan the day for him, put new clothes on him, read the books with him, made a comfy place for him to sleep... Next morning at the calendar time, kids share his/her experience with BB to friends. They are excited to hear and imagine the day with BB form their friend, which would be a good experience to learn how to ask and answer. Monthly "Show and Teach" is also a great opportunity to share their interest and experiences with friends.

We like their healthy snacks. I like their table manner at the snack table. They have a great out door play area for spring and fall. Still have more exciting things are waiting for your kids to explore and learn. What I appreciated most there at Christ the King's preschool is my son has learned about love and care of himself and others.

I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation for Christ the King Preschool. As a parent of 2 children who attended Christ the King Preschool for 2 years each, I can personally account for the professionalism, dedication, and personal interest the teachers have shown for all of their students through the years. I loved the preschool and the teachers so much, that I volunteered as their registrar for 4 years.

The 2 teachers and 1 teacher's assistant work very well together and create a wonderful environment for preschool learning. They provide many opportunities to learn the necessary skills for this age: how to share, to listen to and follow directions, to take turns, plus the added educational skills such as learning their letters and numbers, colors, etc. Each child is at a different level when the come to preschool and the teachers are excellent at assessing what each student's needs are and working with their skill level.

Mary Ann Askelson has been the head teacher for almost 30 years. She welcomes the children every day with a smile on her face and as if they were the most important child in her world.

This is a Christian based program, so the children learn bible verses and stories, and say a short prayer before they eat their snack. it's a fantastic way for the child to include God in their everyday life.

I'm glad you are considering Christ the Kind Christian Preschool for your child. Both of my children loved the teachers and loved the school just as much as I did. I certainly hope you give your children the chance to experience such a wonderful school with an unbeatable staff!
